Story-
When the rat is riding on a mousetrap car , suddenly in the middle of the track there is a huge double cheese burger appear in the middle of the track . the double cheese burger was 10 foot tall and weight 60 kg. It was filled with thick juicy meat, big slices of melted cheese and lot of ketchup , onions and prickles .The rat need to think of a way to get past the double cheese burger , After thinking for a period of time, an idea struck into him. The rat would eat the double cheese burger and make a rat hole in the burger that is big enough to allow the mousetrap car to pass though and fill it stomach. in a puff the rat jumped onto the burger and started eating it.
Shape-
in this project , one of the major issues is the shape as the shape is not easily to be mould and simple shape could not be use to made the object .and it require a lot of different object combine into to form a new shape in this object. i needed two bun, one filled with seeds, 2 thick meat, cheese, onions, ketchup and prickles. in order to made all of it.i needed to use boolean ,combine , use face mode, vertex mode , bevel and extrude. all of it is needed to mould out the shape. after using all these i need to use colour , such as Lambert and using different colour scheme.
Design-
when i do the model , i prefer to do it in Maya first as i have the project beside me and i am more comfortable doing the object in Maya first. when observing the object i found out that the shape of the cheese is a bit sticking to the meat and there is the prickles, onions popping at the side of the burger. my biggest issues is how to make the object look more real and not plastic
Research
i have look at different model of burgers from MacDonald, burger king , and kfc from website, internet and compare all of them , i found out that the model i going to make require a lot of different small part that other similar object don't have,for example the cheese with is not 180 degree straight. one important rule that i going to need is to create a shape not directly from the polygon .i need to combine the object and cut away some part of it to make it more real . E.g the bun. the bun is made from a sphere but i use scale to make it height smaller and added another sphere below it and use boolean -difference to delete it to make it look it a a semi sphere and a cylinder below it.
the meat i have to bevel it so that it look like more round , the cheese i have to sub divide it to many part and use face mode to select some part of it and use rotate and move tool to bend the side of the cheese down.
for the prickles i needed to use vertex mode and control all of the point and make it irregular so that it look like it is been random cut and it in random shape.
and the seed on the bun , i use a cone and a sphere and combine it together and scale it and make it random on the bun. i also need to adjust the size of the double cheese burger to make it more real.
after looking it the second round, i found out that the angle is important too. as the ratio difference between the meat and the bun seem to be similar , however if you look carefully it is actually quite small, it is because of the meat " bevel" looks that made it look smaller.
Self-Critique -
overall i will give myself 8.5/ 10 . as i think i put in alot of effort on doing this project. i have really go and look at model and even my workplace( macdondal) the buns to have a more hand on experience. in term of design , i think the colour , the amount of light reflected , the smoothness of the cheese is not well done, esp the cheese. it does not look real even thought i made changes to it i felt that with more knowledge , i would create a better product. the colour and light is quite weak. as it made the burger look like it made from clay , although i did try and use other type on texture like blinn,hair tube shaded and even pong. it does not create the effect i want. i need to go online and research on the different effect when using different texture.
in term of matching, i would say it almost the same, as the real product is actually a key chain product and not a real double cheese burger, the clay effect made it look more like a plastic figure than a real food.giving it more advantage .
when doing this product , there are many fail attempt, i felt that when doing a model what u really need is patience and logic thinking, able to think out of the box, replacing old ideas with new. it is because when i do the model, i tend to think of new possible way to recreate the object rather than depending on simple shape. also by using this method ,the time i use to create the whole object is less than 2 hour .
